Preschool

Several people have wondered what I do with Carolyn for preschool time…so, that is why I am making a post about what our Preschool Agenda is like. It's nothing fancy and I do it on a very low budget.

1. Opening Songs and Stretches (Usually primary songs)
2. Calendar (I think this is where Carolyn originally learned to count to 30 because we talk all about what day it is (put a sticker on the day in the calendar) and then count the days in the month)
3. Weather Report
4. Nursery Rhyme Time
5. Learning to Read (I've made a few things where Carolyn can practice forming words together - I usually base it on "word chunks" (ie. -ar, -it, -at, -ow, etc. ) We also read words on flashcards that I made or attempt to read some words in a book (in easy reader books)...and other stuff likethat).
6. Read Aloud
7. Mathematics (Right now we are practicing counting. I've drawn/printed out pictures that Carolyn counts. We also have a folder where we add one object a day to the folder (right now we are adding beans). We add one bean a day and then count the total number of beans. We'll do this until we have 100 beans and then start with a new object to count.....we also do stuff with shapes and a little bit of adding).
8. Silly Songs with Mommy (finger plays, primary songs, etc.)
9. Animal of the Week (We usually either read a nonfiction animal book we got from the library or read a fun fact sheet I made (I just put pictures of the animal and some fun facts about them that Carolyn and I can read).
10. Eternal Truths (We either read from "The Friend," I teach her a lesson about something gospel-related, talk about an article of faith (inspired by my friend, Lisa), try to learn a scripture verse, etc.)
11. Writing (practice writing words, names, etc.) She has a "journal" that she loves practicing writing in.
12. Craft

Anyways, that’s what we do for preschool time for anyone that cares :) I love how kids have such a love for learning – so I definitely try to not mess that up with Carolyn. She sets the pace for learning stuff. She really does love preschool and never wants it to end :) I’m always amazed at how much she picks up and remembers.

Of course, Angela gets her preschool time after Carolyn’s turn. She loves to sing, talk about animals, read books, and do puzzles with me for her preschool time.
Anyways, now I need your frugally minded ideas for teaching!

My TWO Dancin' Babes!!

This week the Dance Parties we have over here at the Kims have been especially hip - our little Angela has started to dance!! Well, she been dancing for awhile, but she just started to dance like a ballerina! It's really quite adorable. She puts her arms way out to the side and twirls in circles while smiling real big :) Adorable, adorable!!! I tried to catch it on camera/video but she is a little camera shy (or just wants to hold the camera when she sees it :)I just love having two little girls - watching them dance together is ADORABLE!!

(The girls are dancing to some good Josh Groban Christmas music here - only 153 days away :)

Ward Campout

This weekend we had so much fun camping with our ward at Wellington Lake! We looooove the Hosfelt family! Here is Carolyn with one of her bestest friends, Kaylen; along with Angela and Tyler:

The Hosfelts and my little cuties had a little too much fun in the tent :)

Andrew working hard making our dinners possible while we play:
In the morning, we went on a beautiful hike in the mountains:

After being up most of the night and hiking all morning, Angela was exhausted...Here is her little, cute and dirty sleeping face :) This explains how we all felt when it was all done...

Harry Potter and the Half Blood Prince!

Last night, Andrew totally surprised me and took me to the movie I have been dying to see! He deceived me last night and told me we were going somewhere else and the next thing I knew we were at the theater! YEAH !! :) I was soooooo excited!

He actually had been planning this for months. Originally, Harry Potter was supposed to come out today (Friday)...so Andrew (being the amazing and cute guy he is) took off of work today so that he could bring me to the first midnight showing. Well, about a month and a half ago they changed the opening day so that he couldn't bring me to the midnight showing...isn't he cute that he wanted to do that for me? I love him. His sister, Chantal, also made it possible :) She was so kind and babysat for us last night so we could go (Andrew also asked her months ago if she would be able to babysit when he was planning the surprise). A big thanks to Chantal!

Anyways, Andrew is awesome and I LOVED the movie!!!!

2009 Kim Family Reunion

Last week, Andrew's family had a reunion in Winter Park, Colorado! It was a lot of fun; everyone except Phil and Misty's family were able to come (hopefully we can see you soon, Misty! :) We missed you guys :)...

One of the first nights out there Ponka and Nana threw a Luau:

Dancing to the music:

Beautiful blues:

Andrew made a little skirt for Angela....it didn't stay on long, but it was adorable:
Pin the coconut on the tree:

The two Carolyns:

"Ponka's Girl"
Every time Angela saw Ponka on the trip, she'd start waving like crazy...she grew a little bond with Ponky...
Look at that sweet, little smile:

After the Luau, we celebrated summer birthdays with this amazing Dinosaur cake that the talented Chantal made:
What did a lot of people around mean to Angela? A lot of shoes to try on! Angela spends about 1/5 of her day at home trying on every one's shoes so she was excited to have a plethora of shoes to try on during the vacation :)
We did some swimming out there...

...and we were able to go to the lake one day:

One of the days we went to the Alpine Slide; we all had a lot of fun there (although that's not apparent by Carolyn's face here; she really did love the slide :)! Although, I was totally freaked out by the ski lift with the girls we had to ride up every time we went down the slide....
Conner, Kayla, Carolyn:

Angela loves pointing to everything...she's so good at communicating what she wants. Here she is trying to get every one's attention while pointing at the "dog" (she calls every animal a "dog").

I think that I'm the luckiest person alive...these are the two sweet girls I get to hang out with everyday:

Winter National Park (did I type that right?) Anyways, it was fun having a barbeque in the mtns. and driving through the beautiful mountains on the 4th:
In the evening, we went to a Rockies Game that was followed by fireworks...look how much fun Angela has with her daddy:
Good little buddies:
